MELBOURNE and Essendon will wear their traditional uniforms this Sunday at the MCG, the AFL confirmed on Friday.
After discussions with both teams, the AFL gave the green light for the Demons and Bombers to play in their recognised strips.
The Dees requested not to wear their clash uniform for a home match at the MCG this year, which the AFL has granted.
In a statement released on Friday, the AFL said: the use of Essendon’s clash strip would introduce a greater amount of red, and was not considered for that reason.
It added: while Melbourne is the home club and has not hosted Essendon as the home team in a premiership season match since the opening round of the 2005 season - the first game the club played after the death of Troy Broadbridge in late 2004.
Essendon has undertaken work towards a clash jumper for 2011, which could be worn in fixture matches where Melbourne is the home team.
