UTILITY Cale Morton will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury, while a handful of Demons could return for Saturday’s clash against St Kilda at the MCG.

Morton suffered the injury in the second quarter of Melbourne’s 42 point win over the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG on Sunday.

“Cale has been managing a shoulder injury over the past few months,” football manager Josh Mahoney said.

“Unfortunately, Cale had another episode on the weekend, which has caused further damage.

“Cale will have surgery this week to repair his shoulder and the expectation will be that he is available for the start of pre-season.”

Defender Jack Watts (ankle), midfielder Jordie McKenzie (knee), big man Stef Martin (foot) and the pacy Daniel Nicholson (jaw) are all chances to return this round.

Forward Ricky Petterd (hamstring) and two-gamer Tom Couch (hamstring) face fitness tests.

Forward Liam Jurrah (ankle) is now one week away from resuming, but ruckman Mark Jamar will miss another two to three matches with a calf injury.

Boom forward Mitch Clark and 2009 best and fairest winner Aaron Davey, who have suffered foot injuries, will be sidelined for the rest of the year.

Defender Clint Bartram, versatile small Jamie Bennell and ruckman Max Gawn are also out for the rest of the 2012 season with knee injuries.

First year Demon Rory Taggert (back) remains out indefinitely.
