Melbourne community coordinator and Dream Team fanatic Glenn Balmforth looks ahead to round six
THIS week, the iPods, iPads, and iPhones were out in force on the plane, as the boys made the trip across the Nullarbor to Perth.
It’s come on the back of a week off, which gave the boys a chance to freshen up. And now they are raring to go against West Coast Eagles.
One player who has been red-hot so far this season is midfielder Brent Moloney, who is averaging 98.5 Dream Team points per match.
He is second only to Colin Sylvia, who is averaging 99 points per game, at Melbourne.
But what’s also worth noting is the form of Jack Grimes, who loves playing against West Coast.
In his past three matches against the Eagles, Grimes has averaged a whopping 121 points per game, including an outstanding 141 in round 14 last season.
Cale Morton is another who has impressed against the Eagles. The Western Australian produced 146 points against West Coast at Patersons Stadium (formerly Subiaco oval) in round seven last season.
With the partial lockout this week, we get two chances of picking a good captain through the ‘captain loophole’.
Here’s how it works.
For Thursday night’s match against West Coast, select a vice-captain (eg. Jack Grimes, Brent Moloney or Brad Green) but no captain.
If your vice-captain scores an acceptable score (120+) then keep that score and do not select a ‘captain’ for the week.
The best way of doing this is by putting a player, who you know isn’t playing this weekend, on the field and making him captain.
Then you will have a scoring player on your bench - in the same position as your captain - as an emergency.
That way your captain’s score of zero doesn’t count and your vice-captain gains double points.
The player you have as an emergency will then replace the zero.
If your vice-captain has a stinker and scores poorly, then on Friday select a captain from one of the remaining six games.
Their score will replace your vice-captain’s score as normal.
I hope this all makes sense!
To help you with picking your ‘vice-captain’ this week, we take a look at the top five averages from Melbourne’s past three matches against West Coast Eagles.
Grimes is leading the way and could be a good choice as captain this week, due to his fine performances against the Eagles in recent times.
