MELBOURNE will launch the Trident Girls Football Academy at the MCG on Monday.

Melbourne is dedicated to supporting, promoting, and championing young girls and women playing and administrating the game.

Melbourne is proud to sponsor the Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) and it is this association that has provided the club with a platform to support female footballers through a number of initiatives.

These include the dedication of the Queen’s Birthday weekend clash against Collingwood as Women’s Round, the Rising Star award recognising women who play our great game, naming Melbourne captain Brad Green as the VWFL ambassador, and our most recent initiative - the inaugural Melbourne Football Club Tridents Girls Football Academy.

Fifty-five youth girls will participate in a two-day program in the school holidays, designed to provide self and player development.

The Academy will be held at the MCG, and will include a one-day workshop with Leading Teams, a training session with Melbourne coaches and VWFL state players, media training, and involvement in the Melbourne membership clinic with the entire playing group. This provides an opportunity to gain a greater understanding and insight into working within an AFL club.

The club is committed to supporting those women and girls playing the game, and the Trident Girls Football Academy provides another opportunity to encourage participation and the development of female football for future generations of footballers.
