MIDFIELDER James Magner says Melbourne is treating the second half of the year as another season.

The first-year Demon said it was important to refocus and gain something out of a disappointing season to date. The Dees have won one match from 11 outings this year, before last round’s mid-season break.
Magner said it was a great opportunity to set the culture of the club up for years to come.

“We’re looking to use this as a second season starting now,” Magner said from AAMI Park on Tuesday.

“We’re just looking forward to the second half of the year and really trying to put in some better results and hopefully get a few more wins on the board.

The nominated rookie who has played every game in 2012 said he had exceeded his personal expectations. But he was eager to keep building on his first AFL season.

“If you had have said to me this time last year ‘would you be happy with what I’ve done?’ I would’ve said ‘you’re crazy’ first of all, but I definitely would’ve been happy,” he said.

“I’m not the type of person to get content with where I am.

“I want to be better and I want to just strive towards more, but I’m definitely happy with what I’ve done. But I’m looking to do better.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s inaugural clash against Greater Western Sydney, Magner said Melbourne knew it had to be right on its game to achieve a win against the AFL’s newest team.

“We expect a hard, physical team and they’ll be right up for the contest and I’ve only seen them play a few times,” he said.

“They looked like they’re really competitive and they’re always in the game.

“Against Richmond last week, they showed that they’re really competitive and it went right down to the wire, so we’ll be expecting a lot from them.”
