THE CASEY Scorpions have fought out a tough encounter to defeat the Sandringham Zebras by four points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The final score was Casey Scorpions 11.15 (81) d Sandringham Zebras 10.7 (77)

There were several lead changes throughout the day, with Casey sealing the victory through Melbourne rookie Tom Couch.

Couch was awarded a free kick 40m out on a tight angle. He went back and kicked the goal with seconds remaining, giving Casey a thrilling victory.

Recently injured trio Ricky Petterd, Stefan Martin and Jordan Gysberts all finished with two goals each.

Jamie Bennell, Leigh Williams and Couch also chipped in with one goal each.

Gysberts, who suffered a broken jaw earlier in the season, was very good with 25 possessions. Martin was also solid with 21 touches, while sharing ruck duties with Jake Spencer. James Strauss was also good with 18 possessions.

Casey continued its excellent season winning it's ninth match for the year. It has only lost one game and is currently sitting equal top on the VFL ladder with Port Melbourne.
