Selection No.1: Tom Scully
DOB: 15/05/91, Height: 182cm, Weight: 77kg
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays (VIC)
“A real professional. A fantastic young man. He is a fantastic player and we believe he will be a potential star of the game. That is pretty much the industry opinion. He has a high beep test, a great runner, an inside midfielder who can play outside. He is a great package and will step up early. Last year we took Jack Watts with a long term view but the guys this year should be able to step up earlier, which is the nature of talls v midfielders.
Selection No.2: Jack Trengove
DOB: 2/09/91, Height: 185cm, Weight: 82kg
Recruited from: Sturt (SA)
“We really couldn’t split the two and we didn’t try to. Once we decided who the top two players were we moved to the rest of the draft pool. Why waste your time worrying about a decision of that nature? We are rapt to get Jack. If you saw some of his football playing for Sturt in the SANFL it was quite incredible for a young guy to step up and play that level of footy. He looked a better player when I saw him play for Sturt in the seniors than he did in the championships. If he can go up another cog at AFL level we will be a very happy club.”
Selection No.11: Jordan Gysberts
DOB: 11/06/91, Height: 189cm, Weight: 82kg
Recruited from: Eastern Ranges (VIC)
“Jordan bolsters our midfield again. There wasn’t a lot of noise about Jordan coming into this draft. We rated him highly based on talent. He is 190cm, can go forward and kick a goal which he was able to do for the Eastern Ranges. He was an AIS boy this year so he carried a big load. Jordan is excellent below his knees. He is a creative player, he releases players into space. He is a great reader of the game and plays the modern game. We think he has got a really good all round package but he is a little different to the other boys.”
Selection No.18: Luke Tapscott
DOB: 28/06/91, Height: 180cm, Weight: 87kg
Recruited from: North Adelaide (SA)
“Luke is a school mate of Jack Trengove. We saw him play in the championships last year. He kicked five goals in a game and is a strong-bodied collision type player who likes to get in and loves the body on body stuff. He is a fantastic kick, kicks goals and we think he has also got versatility. He played back for the North Adelaide seniors this year.”
Selection No.34: Max Gawn
DOB: 28/12/91, Height: 207cm, Weight: 104kg
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons (VIC)
“Max will be the second tallest player in the AFL next year. We needed a ruckman to bolster that part of our list. We thought that is where we were able to grab some speculative talls if you’d like. We had our eye on Max and it was a pity he had that ACL during the year. He was rehabbing that really well and we think he was one of the better ruck prospects. He is a worker and can compete. His mental application to the game and willingness to compete at his size is of real appeal.”
Selection No.50: Jack Fitzpatrick
DOB: 26/6/91, Height: 199cm, Weight: 87kg
Recruited from: Western Jets (VIC)
“He was an AIS boy. He went through with Tom Scully and Jack Watts. He is an athletic tall forward who likes to get the ball on the lead. He brings versatility to the team. He can do a bit of rucking and go forward and back. He has had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for most of his life but he is coming out of that over the past two years and is coming along really well.”
