Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jake had a reconstruction on his knee after a few games in the VFL early in the year. But he looks like he is physically strong enough now to play against the rucks. Another pre-season will do him good.

AFL: Round 1 v Sydney Swans (emergency)
AFL: Round 2 v Hawthorn (emergency)/VFL: Round 1 v Geelong
Although Jake didn’t get a lot of the ball, he competed very well in the ruck. He gave us a lot of first-hand possessions. He just needed to do a little bit more around the ground. Brad Gotch
VFL: Round 2 v Port Melbourne
VFL: Round 3 v North Ballarat
Pencil had 17 touches and I thought he really stood up. He played his role and followed instructions, which was really good, because he was a bit down for us the previous match. Brad Gotch
VFL: Round 4 - Bye
VFL: Round 5 v Frankston
It was the best I’d seen Jake play in the ruck. He really launched at centre bounces and was good at throw-ins. He went forward and took a big catch, but unfortunately didn’t score a goal. He gained more experience when he went forward. He picked up 13 touches, so it wasn’t a bad result. Brad Gotch
Unfortunately, Jake went down with a knee injury in the second quarter. He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and unfortunately missed the rest of the season. Brad Gotch
