COACH Dean Bailey said Mark Jamar’s already impressive season can be taken to another level by developing his game in attack during the second half of the 2010 season.
Jamar came up against former Demon teammate Darren Jolly on Monday at the MCG, winning 33 hit outs (including 15 centre hit outs) as opposed to the Magpie’s 18.
The 26-year-old also claimed 25 disposals and took five marks, including three contested in the draw against the Magpies. His efforts drew praise from Bailey post-match.
“Mark’s been pretty consistent [this year],” Bailey said.
“To see him go forward and kick a goal at an important time of the game is really good. He seems to be relishing the game time on ball.
“We’d like to think he might be able to develop also at times a pinch-hit ruckman going forward because he took a couple of really good contested marks today.
“Hopefully we might see that in the next half of the year.”
Meanwhile, Bailey said his side’s slow starts remain one of his primary concerns.
“The way we played in round two was important for the weeks following the match,” he said.
“We started poorly [and] it has been a concern for a couple of weeks now. We’ve got to fix that.
“You can’t give any team the lead and confidence that we did today. From that point on we were working hard to get back into the game.”
