KEY FORWARD Mitch Clark will undergo surgery on his foot on Wednesday.

Football manager Josh Mahoney said Clark, who will miss the rest of the 2012 season, will have an operation to repair a Lisfranc tear in his right foot.

“After further scans and consulting surgeons yesterday (Tuesday), it was decided that the best course of action was to operate on Mitch’s foot to repair the tear,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“This operation will take place today (Wednesday).”

The injury happened in a marking contest during the second quarter against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday.

Up until that point, Clark had booted four goals for the match and 29 majors for the season - a career best. This included an equal personal high five goals against West Coast Eagles in round two.

At the end of round 13, Clark is equal fifth on the AFL goalkicking table.

The former Lion has been an outstanding acquisition for Melbourne since joining the club via last year’s trade period.
