MELBOURNE’S Shane McAdam will miss the upcoming AFL season after requiring surgery on his Achilles tendon.

The small forward sustained the injury on Friday at Casey Fields and will undergo a procedure this week to repair the damage.

Melbourne GM of AFL Football Performance Alan Richardson provided an update on the 29-year-old, who has now been moved to the inactive list.

“As we know, Shane unfortunately ruptured his Achilles tendon late last week and requires surgery as a result,” Richardson said.

“He will undergo that surgery tomorrow. From there, he will begin a long rehab journey, which will disappointingly rule him out for the upcoming season.

“Despite the circumstances, Shane is keeping in good spirits and is looking forward to getting stuck into his rehab. As a club, we will continue to support him every step of the way.”
