MELBOURNE forward Russell Robertson has put himself right in contention for a round six recall after booting five goals for the Casey Scorpions against Frankston in the VFL on Sunday.

Robertson, who has not played for the Demons since round 10 last year after he snapped his achilles against St Kilda at Docklands, has featured in the past three matches in the VFL.

Casey coach Peter German said Robertson will be right in the mix for Melbourne's clash against Geelong this Sunday at the MCG.

"You'd like to think he'll push up," German told melbournefc.com.au.

"Last week, he was very good. I think there's room in the Melbourne forward line for Russell Robertson, and they (the Demons' coaching staff) know that.

"They're just waiting for him to get that match fitness and confidence back in his body."

German praised Robertson's performance against the Dolphins in tough weather.

"Russell did a terrific job," he said.

"He could only score in two of the quarters because of the conditions. He made the most of his opportunities, but the last couple of weeks he's been showing good signs, kicking 3.5 last week and five goals this week.

"He buttered up again and gave us a good forward target."

Melbourne duo Daniel Bell and Austin Wonaeamirri both played their first VFL matches for the season after injuries in the pre-season.

Bell returned from a broken thumb and Wonaeamirri from a hamstring injury.

"He only played a half," said German of Bell.

"He took a heavy knock, so he was rested up in the second half. He played in the midfield and got his hands on the ball a bit in the first half, so hopefully he'll be OK to play this week."

No.1 draftee Jack Watts also played his second consecutive match for Casey reserves, and was among the best for the Scorpions.
