McDonald is one of six Demons included in the initial line-up.
Key duo Mark Jamar and Colin Sylvia have been named in the starting 18, while Cale Morton, Sam Blease and Daniel Nicholson have been named on the extended interchange.
Jordie McKenzie, Ricky Petterd and Max Gawn, who played against Carlton last round, have also been named on the seven-man bench.
As expected, defender James Strauss will miss the rest of the season, after suffering a nasty broken leg against the Blues last round.
But the Demons have lost midfielder Jordan Gysberts, who is out with a scaphoid injury.
Forward Matthew Bate has been left out of the side.
McDonald, who has impressed as a key defender in the VFL this year, was selected at No.53 in last year’s NAB AFL Draft.
He was recruited from Edenhope-Apsley/North Ballarat U18s.
Jamar missed last round with a foot injury, while Sylvia had a run with Casey in the VFL.
