FOUR youngsters are in the mix for Melbourne’s round 23 clash against Gold Coast at the MCG on Sunday, according to coach Todd Viney.

Neville Jetta, Tom McNamara, Tom McDonald and Jack Fitzpatrick could gain a call-up, based on their recent good form with Casey Scorpions.

“We’ll still look at the team and try and pick the best possible players,” Viney said at AAMI Park on Tuesday.

“The VFL team has been playing good footy, so the same selection criteria will apply.

“Guys who are playing really good footy will get the opportunity to put their names up in front of us.”

With finals no longer possible and two rounds remaining, Viney said the Demons are eager to salvage something from a frustrating year.

“We’ve been really disappointed in the season to date,” he said.

“Regardless if we win the next two, we’ve been disappointed in our season.

“We’ve lost a coach throughout that process and regardless of the next two weeks, it’s been a disappointing season.”

Reflecting on Sunday’s loss against Richmond, Viney said the review showed several lost opportunities.

“There were a number of things that were within our control ... we needed to make sure we did better and maybe the result would’ve gone differently,” he said.

“Ultimately, Richmond took advantage of [us] ... so these are the things we’re reviewing this week.”

But Viney reiterated his thoughts on Col Sylvia’s performance against the Tigers (five goals and 29 disposals) and his future at the club.

“He was probably best-on-ground, I thought, in a losing team,” he said.

“His future, I see, is at the Melbourne footy club.

“He’s been here for a long time and he’s had an up-and-down career, but I’m looking forward to him playing some really good footy.”
