The Melbourne Football would like to provide the following injury updates on John Messen and Austin Wonaeamirri.

John Meesen
Ruckman John Meesen will miss the remainder of the 2009 season, after a stress fracture was confirmed in his right foot.

Meesen pulled up sore following Sunday’s game against Geelong, with the subsequent investigation confirming a stress fracture in his right talus bone.

Following consultation with a specialist today, Meesen will have surgery to fix the bone in the coming weeks.

General Manager of Football, Chris Connolly, said, “John has performed well at the senior level this year, and this news is obviously very disappointing for both he and the Club.  The focus will now turn to preparing John for the commencement of the 2010 pre-season.”

Austin Wonaeamirri
Young forward Austin Wonaeamirri will miss up to six weeks of football, after twisting his knee playing for the Casey Scorpions on Saturday afternoon.

Scans have confirmed that Austin has a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee.  Austin will undergo surgery this week.

General Manager of Football, Chris Connolly, said, “This is an unfortunate injury for Austin, but we look forward to having him available for selection in the second half of the year.”
