Casey player review round 18
The coaching staff reviews the Melbourne-listed players who played in Casey’s win over Frankston at Frankston Oval on Saturday
Lucas Cook: Lucas played forward and had a tough time finding space on the small Frankston Oval. He kicked two goalss and continually presented to the ball carrier. He took a couple of nice marks late in the game.
Tom Couch: Tom worked really hard with 32 possessions and two goals as an inside midfielder/half-forward who worked up the ground. Tom did well spreading and being an option for his mids and defenders. He used the ball well and was involved in scoring chains. Tom again displayed an appetite for the contest and provided strong defensive pressure on the opposition. It was a terrific four quarter effort from Tom displaying excellent leadership.
Troy Davis: Played full-back and at times played on Khan Haretuku and kept him goalless. Troy's defensive efforts were solid - he was able to press-up/body-up and spoil strongly. At times his disposal was untidy and it remains a focus for him.
Michael Evans: Michael is starting to show some really good form after a long layoff. His running was a feature and his positioning in linking up was combined with quality handballing and foot passing. He is an astute decision maker and was busy. He will only continue to improve the more he plays. Playing on ball, he is spreading well from stoppages and reads the game well.
Jack Fitzpatrick: Jack manfully toiled all day in the ruck. He had a whopping 46 hit outs, also went forward and kicked a nice goal. His link up, spreading and second efforts were consistent over the day. Fitzy used his pace to take off a few times bouncing the ball. Jack's reading of the play was good to see and he competed strongly in the ruck contests.
Jordan Gysberts: Jordan finished with 27 possessions and two goals. His work in close around stoppages was impressive again. He fed the ball out with clean, quick hands. Jordan is working hard on his spreading, which he was able to do. Jordan worked forward of centre on two occasions and kicked two running goals from 45 metres and 50 metres out.
Cale Morton: Cale had a solid game, collecting 29 possessions and kicking two goals. He patrolled half-back, wing and up forward as well. His hands were very creative, setting up others and he was used many times as a switch option. He set up well to do this. Cale then made good decisions with the footy, taking it forward by hand or foot. No doubt Cale will be working hard this week on the track with defensive coach Jade Rawlings on his left hand spoils.
Ricky Petterd: Ricky tried hard at times to work his way into the game, but he just didn't see a lot of it. He had some lively periods including a nice goal.
Luke Tapscott: Luke played at half-forward and on ball. He worked his way into the game, winning contested footy and clearances. His work in close applying pressure to the opposition was good to see. He needs to take his game up a level to work his way back into the seniors.
Leigh Williams: Leigh played up forward and got to more contests, which was good to see. His team work and one-percenters continue to impress. He finished with two goals from marks. He provided a strong target on numerous occasions.
