On Friday 14 July, Richmond and MELBOURNEfc will battle it out for the Berry Street Victoria Cup, which will mark the 21st consecutive year of the event.
In the lead up to this event, MELBOURNEfc players, including Daniel Ward, Colin Sylvia, Ryan Ferguson and Jared Rivers and netballers Sharelle McMahon and Bianca Franklin have given their time in a ‘hands on’ capacity to help children in Berry Street Victoria’s Foster Care program. The innovative ‘Get Up & Go’ program has been successfully running over the past five weeks with the aim of helping kids learn healthy living options, life skills, the importance of physical activity and improved self esteem. “It’s been a valuable experience for the kids, and the players too, getting to know one another over the past few weeks, helping the kids to learn about fitness and nutrition - plus we all enjoy having a kick of the footy after the session!” said Daniel Ward from MELBOURNEfc, who coordinated the program.
Berry Street Victoria’s Chief Executive Officer, Sandra de Wolf commented, “It’s been fantastic to have the players involved – our kids look up to footballers, so not only have they had a great deal of fun, they’ve also learnt some very important life skills that will benefit them for many years to come.”
Berry Street Victoria has been protecting children and strengthening families in Victoria for nearly 130 years. Every year, Berry Street helps over 5,000 children, young people and families. We ask all MELBOURNEfc supporters to give generously to the Berry Street fundraisers at Friday night’s game. For more information visit www.berrystreet.org.au
