Past, present and future combined today, when legends of the Melbourne Football Club gathered in the Long Room to present guernseys to the Club’s No. 1 and No. 2 draft picks.  Ron Barassi presented the No. 31 to Tom Scully - the Club’s first choice in the National Draft, while David Neitz, together with Brian Dixon, were on hand to present No. 9 to Jack Trengove.

Assembled in front of the Club’s imposing Team of the Century painting, Norm Smith coaching eternally, there was a sense of shared experience, hope and anticipation for the young draftees.  Barassi bowed to the newcomer as he presented No. 31, and implored Scully to give his ‘super best’, while Neitz, with playing days just behind him, recalled the great moments of his career, telling both youngsters that ‘it’s time for you to make your own story now’.

CEO Cameron Schwab echoed the sentiments of all, emphasising the importance of connecting new and old, while close by Brian Dixon held his own No. 9 playing guernsey, woolly and v-yoked, the number on the back slightly cracked, part of his story to treasure and hand on, as Jack Trengove and Tom Scully will no doubt do when their time in the game is complete.

All other Player jumper numbers will be confirmed in the New Year.
