A couple of weeks ago, there was talk of Lynden Dunn, Stef Martin and Michael Newton performing ‘It’s a Grand Old Flag’ at a prominent shopping centre. Well, it eventuatd! Messrs Dunn, Martin and Newton belted out our song with gusto from the Chadstone Shopping Centre food court stairs! Plenty of the boys watched on for moral support (or laughter). Plenty of shoppers were entertained and bemused!

Team China

This week we had a club meeting in relation to our October China trip. Already teams have been divided up - and named! The squads are mixed with players, football and admin staff. Among the team captains are Cale Morton, Matthew Warnock, Tim Harrington and Chris Connolly. Should add to a great experience!

PJ the shark or panda?

Maybe Paul Johnson should stick to footy! His pool table skills have definitely not come to the fore, after he lost every game on Friday afternoon! It capped off a prominent week for the big fella, after one of the China teams was named in his honour: Panda-Monium. That’s because PJ looks like a big loveable panda!

Is Mark ‘Russian’ Jamar actually Ivan Drago?

The boys had a ripping boxing session on Friday. Johnny Bowman put the boys through the wringer, as they sparred and worked on the speed balls and bags. But poor old Jared Rivers couldn’t escape being ribbed again, in the shadow of Mark ‘Russian’ Jamar. The boys still get into Riv, after big Rush - or is that Ivan Drago (the Russian boxer in Rocky 4) - clipped him a couple of years back.

And on the serious note …

It just goes to show how far footy clubs have come. During the week, the playing group got together to discuss responsible drinking, particularly with the end of season nearing. The AFLPA came to AAMI Park and ran a session for the players. The level of discussion really showed the maturity of the group, although it’s still relatively young. Every player has a responsible outlook to look after each other and do the right thing!
