Blease inks new contract
Melbourne has signed exciting youngster Sam Blease to a new two year deal
The 21 year-old is one of the club’s brightest prospects, with his skill, pace and spark important attributes to the team.
General manager of list management Tim Harrington said that Blease was an important signing for 2013-14.
“It is particularly pleasing to have Sam recommit to the club. He brings excitement and speed to our team, and I’m sure our supporters have seen first hand evidence of that,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“Given the injury setbacks that Sam has endured so far in his brief career, we are confident there is plenty of upside for him.
“We strongly believe he will be a long term player for the Melbourne Football Club.”
Blease has played 19 matches for Melbourne, including 14 in 2012. He has also featured in the past 13 games for the red and blue.
He has received two NAB AFL Rising Star nominations in 2011-12, after originally being selected at No. 17 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft.
Blease has hit back strongly after suffering a career threatening broken leg in 2009.
He has predominantly played up forward this year, but is likely to play wing and half-back in the future.
