THIS Sunday, a familiar and welcome presence will be seen on the MCG, where he wore the red and blue for 96 of his 173 games.

David Schwarz will be delivering the match ball to the centre of the MCG for the first bounce of Season 2013, kicking Melbourne’s season off to a great start.

He is one of a number of retired greats who will be filling the same role over the course of the opening round, with the likes of Leigh Matthews, John Schultz and Anthony Stevens also delivering the match ball at their respective home games.

‘I’m really looking forward to the day’, says Schwarz in anticipation.

Renowned for enthusiasm and courage throughout his career, his appearance fits the theme of ‘crowd favourites’ perfectly, and will no doubt spark some reminiscences in the stands, even as he starts a new season for the Club.
