JAMES Frawley says it’s up to the players and not just new coach Paul Roos to drive the change of the club.
Frawley said his initial discussions with Roos reinforced that the players were the ones to lead the turnaround.
“The good thing that came out of the chat with him was that there wasn’t a magic formula. He’s not going to change it all straight away. It’s the actual players that are laying the path and driving the culture,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“He was pretty strong that when he was at Sydney that the players drove everything and he was the supervisor of all the players of whatever they did.
“He just drove the players to make their own culture for the club and that’s what makes Sydney so strong these days – the Bloods culture. It’s still there, even though he’s not there anymore.
“If we can get something like that, here at the Dees, that’d be [the start] of a long road to us getting better.”
Frawley said Roos and chief executive Peter Jackson had already created a sense of excitement.
“He’ll (Roos) be great for the club. [He’s brought] a bit of media and a bit of hype about the club and I think Peter Jackson’s done a great job, doing whatever he can to try and make this club better, so that’s all you can ask,” he said.
