First quarter: Fremantle 2.1 (13) to Melbourne 0.2 (2)
The opening term was a low-scoring contest, as the ball rebounded back and forth and was played largely between the arcs.

Thirteen minutes had passed until the first goal was registered through Fremantle’s Cam Sutcliffe. And when Hayden Ballantyne added Freo’s second almost four minutes later, the Dockers led by 11 points at quarter-time.

Melbourne’s only scores for the term were two behinds via Chris Dawes and Nathan Jones.

Second quarter: Fremantle 6.3 (39) to Melbourne 1.5 (11)
Fremantle upped the ante in the second term, booting four goals to one, claiming a 28-point lead at half-time.

Powerful youngster Dean Kent finally opened Melbourne’s account, when he kicked a brilliant running goal from outside 50 at the nine-minute mark – reminiscent of his effort against the Bombers in round 12.

But when Fremantle hit back with three goals in four minutes during time-on, it proved a costly period for the Demons entering the main break.

Third quarter: Fremantle 13.5 (25) to Melbourne 3.7 (25)
It was goal for goal early in the third term, until Fremantle blew the game open in the latter part of the quarter.

Fremantle kicked five in a row from the 16-minute mark to lead by 58 points at the final change.

The Demons managed two goals for the term, via Dawes and Rohan Bail, as Freo booted seven goals.

Final quarter: Fremantle 15.6 (97) d Melbourne 4.10 (34)
With the game all but over, it was going to be a case of how far Freo or whether the Demons could show any fight.

In the end, it was a fairly lucklustre quarter with just three goals added.

Mark Jamar kicked Melboune’s fourth – and the first in the final term – but when Ballantyne kicked his third and Zac Clarke his second, the Demons had been easily beaten by 63 points.
