CO-CAPTAIN Jack Grimes says his “recovery is going really well”, although he still has six weeks remaining on the long-term injury list, due to a broken collarbone.

Moving freely without a sling, Grimes started running this week for the first time since sustaining his injury in round six against Carlton.

“I can do a little bit of weights and obviously sit on a bike and do leg weights,” he told Dee TV.

“I’ve been able to keep reasonability fit while I’ve had [the injury].  Being able to run again is a great result.

“I expect to be back in full contact training in four weeks but in the next two to three weeks, I’ll be able to do different parts of training.”

Grimes is no stranger to the long-term injury list, missing the majority of the 2011 season with a navicular stress fracture.

“It hasn’t been fun being on the long-term injury list. Unfortunately it’s a part of footy sometimes,” he said.

“Although it doesn’t look great looking at the x-ray, the bone will heal and I won’t have any problems in the future.”

Grimes said it had been positive watching elevated co-captain Nathan Jones and promoted vice-captain Colin Garland progress in their new roles.

“It’s great recognition I reckon. He’s (Jones) been one of our most consistent performers over the last couple of seasons, so it’s great for him and Garlo as well to step up to the roles,” he said.

“It’s great to see them take it in their stride.”
