OSCAR McDonald says he can’t wait to rejoin older brother Tom – thistime as an AFL-listed player at Melbourne – after he was selected at No.53 inthe 2014 NAB AFL Draft on Thursday night.

Oscar hasn’t seen much of his sibling in the past four years, given theyoungster has remained in country Victoria and Tom has developed into anintegral part of Melbourne’s defence.

“It’s exciting… I’ve spoken to a lot of people from the club and got a lot of texts from theplayers – one from Tom,” he told melbournefc.com.ausoon after being drafted.

“I’m veryhonoured to be drafted at pick 53 – I know Tom was also drafted [at that pick]– and I’m over the moon.

“I think itwill be good … having that familiar face will make going into an AFL club a loteasier. But as Tom has said before, we haven’t seen a lot of each other in thepast four years and to step back in time with my brother will be fantastic.”

McDonald, who is taller than Tom at 197cm, said he was “a bit different” to his olderbrother.

“I’m probablya bit more immature than Tom,” he said with a laugh.

“Tom is avery mature boy for his age, but we get along well so there must be somethingbetween us.”

“As aplayer, I’m a good solid mark, who can read the play and move well acrosshalf-back. I’ve built up a bit of a tank – endurance wise over the past coupleof pre-seasons – so I’m able to run a lot and get involved in the game, not justdefensively but offensively.”

But McDonaldsaid he wasn’t sure where he would land in the draft.

“Listeningto a lot of media hype, it had me being selected around the 25, 26, 27 mark,”he said.

“My coachesand managers thought that was my range for me – anywhere between pick 25 topick 40, so when my name wasn’t called out, then I was a bit nervous.

“Come pick53 – that’s where it happened and I’m very happy with it.”
