Assistant coach Sean Wellman runs through the 22 players from Melbourne’s 35-point loss to St Kilda at Etihad Stadium on Sunday

Clint Bartram: Barty’s tackling again was good. He had to adjust to different opponents, including Adam Schneider. He gave us a little bit of run from half-back. Overall, he was solid.

Matthew Bate: Bater had a quiet one after last week. He set a pretty high standard last week and it would’ve been nice if he kicked a couple of goals. He played deep and they put numbers back, so he was often up against two-on-one. He’d be pretty keen to bounce back next week.

Jamie Bennell: I thought he had opportunities to really hurt the opposition. He looked really dangerous in the first quarter. He had three shots on goal and if he can do that every week and convert more than miss, he’ll be really dangerous.

Cameron Bruce: He had plenty of the footy, but he didn’t hurt as much as he normally does with his possessions. He found the footy and won his own ball, but just needs to get more out of his ball use.

Kyle Cheney: I thought he did some good things today. He played on Brendon Goddard, who played forward and is a star player. He stopped Goddard marking the ball and was good on the lead-up. He just needs to use the ball a bit better. He had a couple of short kicks he needed to hit. Defensively, I thought he did well, but he just needs to work on his kicking.

Aaron Davey: Flash was probably a bit quiet, but he played a team role. He did a couple of really good blocks, but probably didn’t use the ball as well as he can - he’s probably one of the best kicks in the competition. He didn’t hit the scoreboard, so he’s probably just having a bit of a flat patch at the moment. But he did do some good team things around the stoppages.

Lynden Dunn: He played a really disciplined role on Sam Fisher, as a defensive forward. St Kilda had to put Fisher forward for part of the game. I thought Lynden was really diligent and stuck to his task really well. He kicked two goals and could’ve kicked three, had he not hit the post. He’s getting better at his role each week.

James Frawley: He had a good game. Stephen Milne is a dangerous player and I thought James’ tackling was outstanding. He didn’t give Milne much space and I was really pleased with James’ contribution. A couple of Milne’s goals he couldn’t have done a lot about. It was a disciplined game and he stuck to his task well.

Colin Garland: Col had a really good start. He had Rhys Stanley and I didn’t think he had a massive impact on the game. It would’ve been nice to get a bit of run out of Col. I think he can really bring that to the team and it’s something he needs to build on, because he can certainly do that.

Brad Green: He was solid. He played on the wing and kicked a couple of goals, so he continued his good year. He’s been really effective and he was able to win a few clearances as well. He’s in really good form and continued that against St Kilda.

Jack Grimes: It was unfortunate for Jack [as he injured his hamstring]. He got a bit of the footy in the first quarter and used it better in the second. Hopefully, it won’t be too serious and we’ll get him back in the team soon.

Mark Jamar: I thought he was really competitive in the ruck, but just missed a couple of half chances when he was forward. He got his hands on the ball a number of times and was certainly competitive in the ruck. It would’ve been nice for him to kick one or two goals and have an impact up forward, which he certainly can do.

Neville Jetta: I was really pleased with Nev’s defensive work. He didn’t get a lot of the footy, but the way he’s going about it, he’s getting reward for effort. Some of his tackling and chasing was really pleasing.

Nathan Jones: Nathan tagged Nick Dal Santo. I thought he had a reasonable game. Dal Santo is a dangerous player. Jonesy kept Dal Santo to 24 disposals, when a lot of them had more. It was good to see him go down back on Dal Santo and compete with him in one-on-one situations. That will give him confidence.

Joel Macdonald: Joel was really competitive and played on different opponents. He played on smalls and talls down back and gave us run as well. He also won his own ball. It was a really consistent effort.

Jordie McKenzie: Jordie bounced back from last week. He was quiet against Adelaide, but made a lot more impact and was lively, spreading away from stoppages. He got back the success that he had earlier in the year.

Brent Moloney: I thought Beamer had a solid game. His hardness around the stoppages were really important for us. Again, he was really consistent inside. He also put pressure on the opposition as well with his tackling.

Jared Rivers: Riv had just a solid game. He took on the talls - Ben McEvoy, Adam Pattison and Michael Gardiner and I thought he was pretty good defensively in his 100th game. He’s similar to Garland - we’d like a bit more drive from him, attacking wise.

Tom Scully: I thought he gave plenty of run in the last quarter. He probably didn’t get the ball as much as he’d normally like. It was pleasing that he was still working hard right to the last minute of the game.

Jake Spencer: I thought Jake was competitive. He marked the ball, made some spoils and competed hard in the ruck. He probably held his own in the ruck, but he just needs to put four quarters together, as he gets a bit tired in the end. But he missed four weeks with his preparation this year. We want him to build on his fitness base, because he showed he can compete really well.

Jack Trengove: Jack was really good in the first half, but then St Kilda sent Clint Jones to him, which was a good learning experience. Clint’s the best tagger in the competition. Jack had a quiet third quarter, but fought his way back into the game.

Jack Watts: He was quiet early, but he kept presenting. He kicked a goal and took nine marks, so he’s learning about the work rate required. It was good to see him work his way back into a game.
