No.5 – Richo’s push in the back
As a youngster, Gawn was a big Richmond fan, and while some of his favourite players were rather obscure, it was Matthew Richardson that caused the Tiger Army agony in 2007.
In the dying stages of this Round 9 clash with the Bombers, Richardson marked at half forward and goaled from long-range to win the game – or so he thought.
A free kick was paid for a push in the back, and the Tigers went down, with the long-lasting memory staying with Gawn to this day.
No.4 – Buddy’s winner
Few footballers in history have possessed the skills of Lance Franklin, with the former Hawk responsible for one of Gawn’s favourite finals memories.
Franklin’s last-minute goal against the Crows in the 2007 Elimination Final was a piece of magic that will be remembered fondly for a long time to come.
No.3 – Cale Morton on the trot
While some of Gawn’s best memories were serious, this Cale Morton classic was on the funny side.
A young, skinny Morton decided to run away from Port’s Brendon Lade, rather than engaging in some push and shove.
No.2 – Marking on the coach
In 2014, Max Gawn was still finding his feet in the competition, and took a classic one-handed mark over current defensive coach Troy Chaplin.
Gawn still enjoys bringing this moment up around the locker rooms.
No.1 – A Fitzpatrick compilation
Gawn couldn’t fit just one moment into the No.1 spot in this countdown – instead he’s selected a compilation of Jack Fitzpatrick’s greatest highlights to round out his Top Five.
