Todd Viney’s season assessment
Jordie is an unbelievable team player. He continued to play his role every week. Jordie is a sensational tackler and applied great pressure to his opponents. This year, he was hampered with a groin injury and a few other minor ailments, so we didn’t see the best of him. He missed a fair bit of last pre-season, so he’ll get a much better run at it next year.

VFL reserves: Round 6 v Northern Bullants
Jordie played his first match this year and got through a half. It was a typical Jordie performance. He was hard-working and offered so much quality. Brad Gotch

VFL: Round 7 v Bendigo Bombers
Jordie was remarkable really. It was just his second game for the season, after just 50 per cent game time in the reserves last week. He was in our best three to five players. Jordie is a very good player. It was a credit to him that he could step up in his second game back and win 24 possessions, displaying physicality and pressure. His skill level was also there. He was an instigator in the turnaround. Brad Gotch

AFL: Round 9 v St Kilda
Jordie had his first game back. He had limited game time, but impacted with every possession he had. As always, Jordie’s set-up was fantastic and his tenacity and determination was evident. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 10 v Carlton
Jordie was solid. His attack on the ball was excellent, as was his work rate. He led the way with nine tackles. It was a typically, tenacious McKenzie game. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 11 v Essendon
Jordie’s tenacity and hardness at the ball was evident. He finished the game with 13 tackles and topped our pressure points. Jordie had six scoring involvements and worked his way into some excellent form. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 12 v Collingwood
Worked away diligently on Scott Pendlebury, but was probably beaten on the day. He did everything he could to try and curb Pendlebury’s influence. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 13 v Fremantle
Jordie copped a hard whack early in the game, but incredibly, managed to maintain his work rate and intensity for the remainder of the game. He worked diligently to curb Matthew Pavlich’s effectiveness, when on ball, while he was still able to set up play, with great ball-use by hand in-and-under. We would like to see him kick the ball more often, as his stats would suggest. He had two kicks and 26 handballs. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 14 v Richmond
Again, Jordie put away a really good player in Trent Cotchin. His physicality and determination set a great example for his teammates. He continued to win the hard ball in-and-under, and distributed it intelligently by hand. Jordie put his teammates into space at every opportunity. He continued his good form and continued to gain valuable experience playing together with the midfield group. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 15 v Western Bulldogs
Jordie’s in-and-under work was again outstanding. He had nine first possessions and nine clearances. He also used the ball well and involved himself in our counter-attack by spreading hard to space. He negated Matthew Boyd’s effectiveness at stoppage. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 16 - Bye

AFL: Round 17 v Port Adelaide
This was a typical hard working game from Jordie. He burrowed in, and reduced the effectiveness of Travis Boak, but was still involved in the attacking side of the contest. He continued to play his role for the team, which his teammates really appreciate. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 18 v Hawthorn
Jordie was probably beaten on the day by Sam Mitchell, who was very effective. But in true Jordie fashion, his aggression and determination was there for all to see. He had 11 tackles, which was what we’ve come to expect from Jordie. He continued to give his all every week. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 19 v Geelong Cats
Jordie was convincingly beaten by Joel Selwood, but he tried hard all day and was our best player. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 20 v Carlton (emergency)
Again, Jordie’s endeavour was fantastic. He had Chris Judd early in the game. Unfortunately, Judd got away from him, as he had done with most opponents this season. Jordie’s defensive pressure and intent was terrific. We just needed him to kick the ball more often. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 21 v West Coast Eagles
Jordie had a good game, but it could’ve been a really good one, if he used the ball a bit more effectively. As always, his intensity and determination at ground level was fantastic. His spread and willingness to work hard was great. He continued to grow in confidence with each game. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 22 v Richmond
As always, Jordie was aggressive and determined to win the ball. He won some really good in-and-under ball. Jordie continued to progress and follows the coaches’ instructions to the letter. He continued to get better with more experience. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 23 v Gold Coast Suns
Jordie had a flat game. He didn’t win the ball as much as he would have liked and had little impact at stoppage. His tackling and defensive pressure was solid as always. It showed that Jordie had carried a big load this season. Mark Williams

AFL: Round 24 v Port Adelaide
Jordie bounced back really well after some quiet games. He had 20 possessions and 95 per cent effectiveness with his disposals. He led the way with his physicality and defensive intent. He kicked two goals, which is a side of his game he must continue to develop. We just love the way he plays. Mark Williams
