THE challenge of taking on the West Coast Eagles at their home ground remains one of the biggest tests in the game, says coach Paul Roos.
Roos said Domain Stadium had been a tough place for Melbourne in recent years, but added that there were no fears playing at the venue.
“The ground is different and the ground is a lot bigger, so we’ll get over there and train a bit and runaround on the ground,” he said on Roos’ Views in the lead-up to Saturday’s clash.
“The quality of the opposition has been really high [at Domain Stadium] in the almost three years I’ve been coaching Melbourne, with both Freo and West Coast. Freo has dropped off a bit this year, but we were able to get them in Darwin.
“But the quality of opposition has been high going over there.”
Roos said he was really keen to see how his side would fare against West Coast, given it had pushed several top eight teams this year.
“It’s a great, parochial crowd, and it’s a long trip, but it’s just part of seeing where we’re at and how far we’ve improved and measuring yourself against the best teams in the competition,” he said.
“We’ve played some really good football against Adelaide, Hawthorn and North, but we haven’t quite got over the line.
“The challenge this week is to try and emulate that and do it even better.”
