COACH Dean Bailey has rated his side five out of 10 at the halfway mark of the 2010 season.

Speaking at Gosch’s Paddock for the first time since Melbourne’s move to AAMI Park on Monday, Bailey said his team had progressed, but had missed some opportunities this year.

“Is it a pass? If you win four and a half out of 12, it still doesn’t look great from a statistical point of view,” he said on Thursday.

“So we’re probably sitting at just five out of 10. You don’t want to get too carried away with missing games that were close games and saying ‘wasn’t that great?’. You either win them or you lose them.

“We’ve got to take a very competitive attitude in the next 10 weeks, so at the end of the year, it’ll be very interesting to look at the analysis of the whole year.

“At the moment, we’re probably five out of 10. Some people might say that’s a bit harsh, but we’re in games to win games and we didn’t. You call it as you see it, and we’re hanging in there at the moment.”

Bailey was asked during his media conference if ruckman Mark Jamar and key defender James Frawley were Melbourne’s most improved players this season, but he added two other names to the mix.

“They’ve (Jamar and Frawley) certainly progressed through the year. I think you could argue there are two or three other blokes - [Brent] Moloney has been really consistent and been very good for us, and [Brad] Green has been very consistent,” he said.

“I think the roles that they play have been very important - they’ve had some pressure on them during games and they’ve stood up, so they’re heading in the right direction for us.”

Pressed for any Melbourne All-Australian prospects, Bailey said he would leave that up to those in charge of selecting the AFL’s best 22 for 2010.

“I’ll leave the All-Australian contenders up to the All-Australian selectors,” he said.

“They can determine who’s in and out.”
