NATHAN Brown was one of the liveliest in the business when he played 148 games and kicked 36 goals for Melbourne over a decade from 1998, retiring at the end of 2007 as a Life Member of the Club.

Not much has changed - he’s still enthusiastic, still busily involved, and still enchanted by being part of the Club and spending time doing all he can for it.

He is involved in coaching with Scotch College, and is still playing the game.

‘I’ve been having a kick with a few of the boys and half of Yze’s family at Shepparton Swans.’

‘He’s obviously not the only Melbourne player enhancing the regional side - local boy Adem Yze is back in his element, along with Russell Robertson, and Shane Woewodin has also joined them for a game.’

Now involved in the Club’s Past and Present Players’ and Officials’ Association and the Mates of Melbourne, Brown loves nothing more than ‘catching up with all the guys.’

Still just seasons away from his retirement, he also has a strong connection to many of the current team, and finds the current leap in form and achievement exciting.

‘It’s exciting times for the Melbourne Football Club, I hope that the old guys who are still running around can be part of the resurgence - it’d be brilliant for them and we have already witnessed how much of a lift the young guns have given them.’

Away from the game, Brown has recently started a new job, in charge of the cleaning contract at the Rialto for City Central Property Services which involves looking after around 60 staff, liaising with St Martin’s Management and keeping up relations with the 82 different tenancies throughout 55 Levels.

He’s also looking to make his way into little bit of residential property development, but, no matter what he does, the main focus of his life is quite simple.

‘I have a beautiful wife and our three little boys, and they’re the greatest thing in the world to me. They mean everything to me.’

With Kynan aged five, Jake aged three, and Ryder aged one, the trio has a definite future as Little Demons, and Brown is looking forward to the time that all three are able to spend a day at the footy, watching Melbourne.

In the meantime, ‘Any extra time I have, I spend with my wife and kids. With my job now, I get to pick up my kids from school and kindy, and I cherish it!’
