Assistant coach Josh Mahoney runs through the 22 players from Melbourne’s 29-point win over the Richmond at the MCG on Sunday

Rohan Bail: After being a bit scratchy early in the backline, he was moved forward with a defensive role on Chris Newman. He really stuck to his task there and won some important ball with his attack in the second half.

Clint Bartram: Clint had some important roles on their damaging small forwards. He stuck to his task and ran all day, so he would’ve been pretty tired after that effort. But it was another very good performance from Clint.

Jamie Bennell: Jamie started forward, but with their small forwards, he was forced to go back. His run out of defence and his speed was a good change up for us and it showed us that he can still play a defensive role.

Cameron Bruce: Brucey played a number of different roles - wing and in the backline. He won some really important contests and really showed his experience, when the game was on the line.

Aaron Davey: After a quiet first half, Aaron really upped his work-rate and got into the game. He was really important in the third quarter with his ball use. As we all know, he kicks the ball particularly well.

Lynden Dunn: Lynden had an important role to play on Brett Deledio, who is an important runner for them. Lynden is doing really well and now he’s stopping half-backs from having an influence. He’s also kicking goals and for him to kick five goals against the Tigers was a terrific effort.

James Frawley: He played a really important role on Jack Riewoldt, who has been in very good form. To end up with Riewoldt only kicking one goal was a tremendous effort from James.

Colin Garland: Garlo had to play on a number of different opponents. He was very important at ground level and he had eight rebound 50s for the game.

Brad Green: Greeny just showed again that he is standing up when we need him to. To kick three goals, including a crucial one right on half-time was another very good game from Brad.

Mark Jamar: After an interrupted week, it was good for Russian to get through the game. He probably looked a bit tired throughout the game, due to his preparation. Still, to dominate the hit outs and give us first chance at the ball, showed again what an important player he is for us.

Paul Johnson: It’s really important that Johnno comes in and has an influence on the game. He had 11 possessions, including seven contested and it was important for us to have him help out Russian (Mark Jamar) in the ruck.

Nathan Jones: Jonesy came into the team late. He switched on straight away to his role and I thought he was one of the guys who was really composed with the ball. He didn’t fumble and he attacked the ball really hard, just as we expect Jonesy to.

Liam Jurrah: It was good to see Liam attacking the ball again, like we saw him do last year. He was a bit off with his set-shot goalkicking, but he still kicked four goals and four points. So it was a good return to form for LJ.

Joel Macdonald: Joel continues to win some great one-on-one contests for us off half-back. He takes talls and smalls and he’s just a very versatile backman, who has slotted in very well into our defence.

James McDonald: James did a really good job on Dustin Martin. He limited Martin’s influence on the game.

Jordie McKenzie: Jordie was in-and-under yet again and finished with 16 possessions, including eight contested. He also had seven tackles and is an important cog in our midfield.

Jared Rivers: He was important again. Riv is one of the key guys for us down in defence and he’s a real barometre for us. When he’s up-and-going and spoiling the ball we generally get the ball out of the backline. It was another good effort from Riv.

Tom Scully: Tom was really important. His leg speed through the middle of the ground opened the game up, when we needed it to. He used the ball a lot better this week.

Col Sylvia: Col in his 100th game was probably a bit off with his kicking throughout the game, but some of his work in close was still very important around the clearances.

Jack Trengove: It was Jack’s first game back after three weeks out. It took him a while to get into the game and we expect him to improve from that effort.

Jack Watts: After a quiet first half, Jack worked his way into the game in the second half. Some of his decision-making and kicks were really important. He’s continuing to develop and we’re getting a consistent performance.

Austin Wonaeamirri: Aussie was into the game early. He had five tackles for the game, but was probably a bit fumbly. His pressure around the ball to cause turnovers was super important.
