MELBOURNE had four players return from injury on the weekend, as Marty Hore, Jake Melksham, Billy Stretch and Sam Weideman all took the field for Casey in the VFL.
Get up to date with how the quartet faired in the Demons’ 12-point victory at Trevor Barker Beach Oval on Sunday.
Marty Hore
Just three weeks after breaking his collarbone, Hore made his comeback to football and looked more than comfortable at VFL level.
Fresh off back-to-back best and fairest awards at the level for Collingwood, the versatile defender had no trouble settling in, racking up 20 disposals and six marks for Casey upon his return.
The 23-year-old was a reliable contributor across half-back, playing with freedom to put his hand up for an AFL recall next weekend.
Jake Melksham
Melksham hasn’t been sighted at any level since going down with a foot injury against Gold Coast in Round 8, but he impressed when coming on after quarter-time on Sunday.
Although the star Demon was on restricted minutes, he had an immediate impact for Casey with 16 touches and two goals.
Melksham was required to do some running post-game to satisfy the fitness team, but after a solid hit-out he’s well positioned to make a senior return.
Billy Stretch
Stretch has had a luckless run with injury in recent times, missing the past five weeks with the same foot injury that caused him grief at the backend of last season.
But the 22-year-old ran out Sunday’s clash with Sandringham without concern, gathering 16 disposals along the wing.
The midfielder will continue to be cautious with his foot but should have no further disruptions for the remainder of the season.
Sam Weideman
After missing two weeks with a minor calf strain, Weideman made his VFL return, but it didn’t go to plan.
From the opening centre clearance, the key forward was concussed, colliding with Declan Keilty in a marking contest just seconds after the first bounce.
