TALL utility Cameron Pedersen has signed a new one-year contract for the 2016 season.
Manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Pedersen had showed some good form this year, before suffering a season-ending wrist injury mid-season against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
“Cam came in and played some good football for us in the role as a forward and ruck, before he got injured in round 11,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“He’s worked hard in his rehab and we’re happy to offer him another opportunity for 2016.”
Pedersen, 28, has played 52 AFL matches, including 36 for Melbourne and 16 for North Melbourne.
He made his AFL debut in round one, 2011 for North Melbourne against West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium.
After two seasons with the Kangaroos, he joined Melbourne via the 2012 trade period.
He played his first match for the Demons in round one, 2013 against Port Adelaide at the MCG.
Pedersen had his best AFL season in 2014, when he played 19 matches and was widely regarded as one of the club’s – and the AFL’s – most improved players.
After booting three goals each against Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs in rounds seven and eight respectively this year, Pedersen notched up his 50th AFL game against Port Adelaide in round nine.
But after seven appearances this year, his season came to an abrupt halt, due to injury. However, the mature Demon has made a strong impression on his comeback from injury and will add depth to Melbourne’s big man department next year.
