MELBOURNE coach Paul Roos has told his players to forget about Saturday's 105-point loss to Hawthorn and he has no plans to show them a replay as part of the team's review.
The coach suggested his players could even be granted extra days off this week as the club prepares to audit their workload and conditioning after a sluggish performance at the MCG.
Roos said injury management was a big issue for the Demons after Jesse Hogan was withdrawn pre-game with soreness and Christian Salem was substituted with a hamstring injury.
Asked what his message to the players post-match had been, the premiership coach said: "Probably just to forget the game".
"After the game the easiest thing is to rip into them about effort and all those sorts of things," Roos said.
"But you've got to give yourself some time to really analyse the game and make sure you're clear on what the reasons were for a performance like that.
"I don't think we'll show the game to the players at all, I don't think there's any benefit in that."
Saturday's loss was the first triple-figure defeat of Roos's coaching career, but he said avoiding such margins had never been a badge of honour.
"I've never really thought about it," he said.
"Those things more grate you as a coach because you're responsible for the performance, not the gap.
"I hate losing every time, whether it's a one-point loss, or 93-points against West Coast last year, which was the last belting we copped."
Of the most damning stats on Saturday, the Demons were belted in tackles (74-63), handball receives (150-112), clearances (45-31) and inside 50s (58-36).
There were suggestions on Saturday that the players had completed a 14km training session on Thursday that could have left them drained two days out from the game, but Roos said they had covered no more than 7kms.
He said consecutive matches against top teams Fremantle, the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn could have caught up with his "exhausted" players.
"The effort wasn't great, don't get me wrong, but was that because the guys are really tired after a tough three-week block?" he said.
"That's something I've got to identify. We're not happy with the performance at all.
"We really need to do an audit on the players and maybe give them a couple of days off early in the week.
"Are we training too much? But then you can't educate if you don't train and we need to educate as you can see today."
Roos said Hogan could have been pushed into Saturday's team but the club was cautious and he would definitely return against the Western Bulldogs in round eight.
