DOM Tyson says the Demons were genuinely pleased with their win over the Brisbane Lions at the MCG last Sunday, even if the match was criticised by several sections of the football media and public.

Although it was a low-scoring match and Melbourne had to grind out a win, the prevailing view was that ‘a win is a win’ and in the red and blue’s situation – it was simply happy to take the four points.

Tyson acknowledged that Melbourne’s second half was disappointing, but it was happy with its first half, particularly its opening term.

“We were actually really happy with how the first half panned out,” he said on Wednesday at AAMI Park.

“We defended really well and showed some good ball movement. I think we only kept them to one goal for the whole first half, which was how we wanted to play.

“The second half turned into a bit of a scrappy game, but a win’s a win and sometimes you’ve got to grind them out and it’s not going to look pretty. There are always things we can work on in the second half.

“We only kept them four or five goals, which is a good defensive effort, so we were happy on that side.”
