FORWARD Jack Watts says he’s definitely having his best AFL season.
Watts, who has kicked a career-best 34 goals so far this year, said 2016 was the best year of his eight seasons in the AFL.
“It’s been a great year for the club – I think we’re moving forward,” he said.
“In terms of wins, it would’ve been great to get a couple more early in the year and we lost a couple of close ones, which were pretty frustrating.
“In terms of the club and the situation we’re in and the people that we’ve got here – it’s a very encouraging and supportive environment and I’m really benefitting from that.”
Watts said the club was “certainly well-placed” to push for a finals berth next season.
“The people that we’ve got at the club and the young players we’ve got – you just think of [Christian] Petracca, [Angus] Brayshaw, [Clayton] Oliver, [Sam] Weideman and Hunty (Jayden Hunt) – the guys coming through – there is a plethora of good young talent at the club,” he said.
“It’s our responsibility – and it’s quite strange being an old fella – that we’re giving them the best chance to get what they want out of their careers.
“It’s a very exciting time at the club.”
Watts said improving his leadership over the next few years would be important.
