KEY forward Jesse Hogan will be monitored in the lead-up to next Saturday’s clash against Hawthorn at the MCG, after hurting his knee during Melbourne’s two-point win against the Gold Coast Suns at the ‘G on Sunday.
Coach Paul Roos said Hogan would be assessed in the build-up to round 20.
“He struggled when he hit his knee and marked the ball early on [in the match] and he looked like he was struggling for most of the game,” he said.
“It got the better of him in the last quarter. We’ve got a six-day break and it’ll be interesting to see how he comes up.
“I think it’s just a bruise rather than anything else, but he struggled a bit throughout the course of the day. It was a good effort to keep on playing and he was actually a pretty effective player for us.
“As the game wore on, he couldn’t keep on going.”
Roos said he was unsure if uncapped tall forward Sam Weideman would get a call-up for Hogan or before the end of the season.
“I’m not sure. He played a really good game [in the VFL] and we’re really mindful of being open about the back half of the year, and whether that’s resting guys, like Mitch White, who didn’t play yesterday,” he said.
“'Weide' we rested a while ago and we got him back into form, so that’s all part of the discussion. We’ve got a six-day break, so I suspect there might be a few changes going into next week. There are probably some sore guys.
“Sam was good [on Saturday], but we’ll chat about all of the guys, as they (Casey) had a great win. We’ve got some good players playing in our VFL team at the moment.”
