GENERAL manager of football operations Josh Mahoney says a deal to secure Bomber Michael Hibberd won’t happen on the first day of the trade period.
Mahoney said the club and Essendon still needed to come to terms on a deal to bring the hard-at-it defender to Melbourne.
“It’ll probably not get done today,” he said from Etihad Stadium on Monday.
“We’ve had another chat with Essendon, so we think over the next few days we’ll work something out.
“We’re working through a little bit whether it’s this year or a future pick.
“Both of the clubs will go home and have a look at what they’ve spoken about today and reassess it in the next few days.”
Mahoney reaffirmed the Brisbane Lions were interested in defender Lynden Dunn, but nothing further had happened.
“We had discussions with the Lions and they’ve got a few defenders they’re looking at, at the moment,” he said.
“Lynden was one of the guys that they’re looking at, but [we] haven’t made any further progress on that today.
“His manager came to us about Lynden and said he was disappointed with the lack of opportunities this year and we said we’re happy to look at opportunities for him, if it presents itself.”
Mahoney said there was no talk from rival clubs about Chris Dawes’ future.
