STAR Melbourne recruit Jordan Lewis has hit the training track for the first time with his new teammates as the Demons' senior players returned for pre-season training on Monday.
In hot and windy conditions at Gosch's Paddock, the four-time premiership Hawk took training in his stride, completing a tough running component involving repeat 400m efforts over five minutes that left the players gasping for air.
When Lewis hit Jesse Hogan on the chest in a drill, the former Hawthorn vice-captain joked that the star forward should get used to that sort of service, to the laughter of his new teammates.
Lewis was sensationally traded to the Demons, along with picks 57 and and 68, in the off-season.
The Hawks received selections 48 and 66 in return for the star onballer.
Defender Tom McDonald was the standout during the testing running session, blitzing the field around the oval.
Second-year midfielder Clayton Oliver trained with the rehab group and ran laps around the oval.
Oliver was charged with drink-driving in the off-season, with the Demons' leaders to decide on the penalty for his transgression early this week.
Reigning best and fairest winner Jack Viney, who had hip surgery after the season, did some work on the adjacent oval with a rehab group that included Jay Kennedy-Harris, Jack Trengove and Mitch King, among others.
Viney, like former Essendon pair Jake Melksham and Michael Hibberd, is not expected to join in full training until after Christmas.
Tom McDonald will also be eased into full training as he recovers from post-season shoulder surgery.
Star forward Hogan appeared in good nick and impressed on the track, while Max Gawn – who rocked up to training in a garish Jesse Hogan supporter t-shirt – also set the intensity at training.
