MELBOURNE women’s football operations manager Debbie Lee says the club is developing strongly as it builds towards its first AFL Women's season.
Speaking at Melbourne’s annual general meeting at the MCG on Thursday night, Lee said the women’s team would be suited to playing in the warm February/March conditions.
“If you summarise our women’s team, we’ve got a pretty highly-skilled team we think,” she said.
“There were 218 girls drafted across Australia and they rate at different levels.
“We think, generally we’ve got a pretty highly-skilled team.”
Lee said the Western Bulldogs and Fremantle would be two teams Melbourne needed to watch out for in the first season.
“The Western Bulldogs have gone for a tough midfield and we’ll be a very outside, running team,” she said.
“It’ll be 16-a-side with smaller balls and 15-minute quarters and it’ll be hot, so it’ll be interesting to see how the girls progress through that.”
