Promising youngsters Jarrad Jansen and Josh Clayton were the most notable talking points to come from the Lions’ 37-point loss to Aspley.

Clayton impressed with a team-high 30 possessions and six tackles, while Jansen chipped in with 28 of his own, along with seven tackles.

Big man Trent West, who still found himself in the reserves despite the club’s No.1 ruckman Stefan Martin being rested, competed well for 15 disposals and a goal. Young forward Jono Freeman contributed with two goals.

Carlton

Collingwood

Mason Cox played his first match in almost a month and contributed with two goals in his side’s comfortable 50-point win over Geelong.

The 211cm American had been rested the past few weeks after managing ten games in succession following his Anzac Day debut against Essendon.

"I feel pretty refreshed," Cox told the club’s website.

"Having those weeks off definitely helped out."

Brent Macaffer, dropped from the senior side last round, responded in the perfect manner by being named in the best, along with defender Tyson Goldsack. Rebounding defender Adam Oxley was tried as a forward and booted a goal.

Fremantle

There were some positives for Fremantle despite Peel’s 45-point loss, with luckless Docker Anthony Morabito finding some touch with three goals.

Midfielder Clancee Pearce also worked tirelessly for 31 disposals, as well as recently axed Connor Blakely who had 31 of his own.

Nick Suban, who was a surprise omission from the side set to play the Sydney Swans this weekend, responded with 22 disposals and seven tackles. Michael Apeness was perhaps the most impressive of the lot, who booted all of his five goals in the second half to be named among the best.

Geelong

Draftee Wylie Buzza (22 hit-outs, one goal) was named Geelong's best player in their 50-point loss to Collingwood. 

Josh Caddy made a successful return from the knee injury that has sidelined him for six weeks, finishing with 30 disposals and eight tackles.

George Horlin-Smith (36 disposals) continued his strong VFL form, and recruit Scott Selwood had 26 touches and 14 tackles as he builds match fitness after ankle surgery.

Gold Coast

There were plenty of big numbers in Casey's 78-point win over Coburg.

Ben Kennedy was everywhere with 39 disposals and a goal, while young gun Clayton Oliver finished with 36.

Melbourne's former co-captains were also good – Jack Grimes had an equal-team high 39 touches, and Jack Trengove finished with 36 and a goal.

Sam Weideman and Dean Terlich (25 touches) kicked three goals each.

Midfielder Ben Newton was busy with 34 disposals, and upgraded rookie Viv Michie kicked two goals to go with his 30 touches.

Alex Neal-Bullen also kicked two goals.

And in good news for the injury-ravaged Bulldogs, Toby McLean kicked a goal in his return from a foot injury.
