1. Swans victory creates crowded ladder
The Swans' victory, coupled with other results from the weekend, has created a logjam at the top of the ladder. With 10 wins and three losses, the club heads into a week off in second spot on percentage behind Geelong and ahead of Hawthorn and North Melbourne, who are also on the same win-loss record in third and fourth respectively.
2. Swans pile on the pressure with off-the-charts tackle count
Constant, sometimes heavy rain throughout Sunday's contest led to a tsunami of tackling from both teams. The Swans laid 155 tackles against the Demons, breaking the league record of 142 tackles held by Richmond (versus Port Adelaide in 2010) and their two-week old club record of 135 achieved against the Gold Coast. Meanwhile Luke Parker finished just short of the individual record for tackles with 17, two behind the 19 in a game achieved by Tom Liberatore (Western Bulldogs) and Jack Ziebell (North Melbourne) and Jude Bolton (Swans). Melbourne laid 87 tackles.
3. Umpires give deliberate out of bounds a workout
Spectators and players alike looked a little puzzled in the second term when there were four deliberate out of bounds decisions paid, including calls for what looked like a kick down the line under pressure or an apparent slew off the side of the boot. The sheer number of deliberate decisions prompted Giants veteran Steve Johnson, who was in the special comments chair with ABC Radio, to say during the commentary he believed the deliberate rule was almost a case of last touch out of bounds in between the two 50m arcs.
4. Roos yet to break duck against Swans
Paul Roos is still searching for his first win against the club he coached for nine years and led to a premiership in 2005. Sunday's match was the third time Roos has faced the Swans and the first time he has returned to the SCG since taking charge of the Demons in 2014. It proved far from a happy reunion with the ground, with the 55-point loss the heaviest of the three results, following 31 and 38-point losses in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
5. Franklin gets milestone
Despite not being the best day for forwards, Swans spearhead Lance Franklin did manage to take advantage of a rare moment in space to mark about 40m out directly in front early in the second term and make no mistake to crack a significant milestone. The kick was the veteran's 750th AFL goal, achieved from 234 career games. The 29-year-old, who finished the day as the best forward on the ground with four goals, is the 13th VFL/AFL player to achieve this milestone. Franklin also moved to the top of the Coleman Medal standings with 47 for the season, one ahead of West Coast's Josh Kennedy.
