Key talls Clark and Frawley likely to play
Mitch Clark and James Frawley are strong chances to return for Saturday’s clash against Geelong at Simonds Stadium, according to co-captain Jack Grimes
Grimes was hopeful the duo would get through Melbourne’s main training session on Wednesday.
“Those two will be a strong chance, but they’ll have to get through tomorrow first,” he said.
Grimes said another big man, Stef Martin, was also working his way through a hip complaint.
“It’s going to be [Martin’s] first main training session back tomorrow, so hopefully he’ll be fit to play - I’m guessing not this week, but next week,” he said.
“But he’s a very important player to us, because he, along with Mitch Clark, are those big targets up forward.
“He can also give big Mark Jamar a chop out in the ruck, so hopefully we’ll get him back very soon.”
And Grimes is optimistic about forward Liam Jurrah returning for Casey against Geelong on Saturday, before the Demons play the Cats.
“It’s so exciting to see that LJ is going to be back - he’s such a barometer around here, because he brings a lot of spark and energy around the club,” he said.
“To see him back playing footy - exactly what he loves - is going to be the best thing for him.
“He was tired after training last week, but he really tore up the track. We played a few competitive games, and he joined in and played really well. It didn’t look as if he missed any footy at all.”
Grimes said Jurrah might need a few VFL matches before being recalled.
“We’ll wait and see how he goes in the VFL - there will be a few people watching him - but I daresay he’ll need a fair bit of match fitness to get up to AFL level,” he said.
“Hopefully it’s not too far away.”
