A HUMBLE Michael Hibberd says his outstanding recent form simply reflects the team.

Hibberd, was who one of Melbourne’s best in its 57-point win over the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday, said the side had 22 contributors and it was hard to pinpoint several standouts – although the defender had 27 disposals, 11 marks and was at his attacking best.

“I think it’s the same as the team. When we’re winning like that – I feel like everyone’s playing quite well,” he told Melbourne TV.

“I don’t think it was my best game, but to contribute was nice and I think everyone did. We had 22 players play really well and it’s hard to lose when everyone’s playing their role.”

Hibberd said each area of the ground played a massive part in Melbourne’s biggest win of the season so far.

“It was great. The mids and forward got up the ground and really put the pressure on,” he said.

“They (the Bulldogs) didn’t get too many uncontested marks, especially in the forward line. The mids were super and they kept tackling and chasing, and it really helped us down back.

“It was a hot contest. There were a lot of bodies flying around and a lot of contested ball. We thrive on that – that’s our game. We just love it when the game’s hot. To actually be able to win the ball on the inside and get it forward, and capitalise with our entries was good.”

Hibberd said to defeat the reigning premiers by almost 10 goals was critical for momentum and confidence.

“It’s super important. They (the Bulldogs) were pretty similar [to us] on the ladder, leading into the game, and we knew after the performance last week that they were going to rock up and play hard,” he said.

“To be able to match them early and beat them was good, and it started in the middle, especially with the forwards putting that pressure on.”

Looking ahead to next Saturday’s clash against the West Coast Eagles at Domain Stadium, Hibberd said it was another genuine challenge for Melbourne.

“It’s going to be another tough game. Every game’s tough at the moment. To go over there on their home deck – they’re a great team and they’re hard to beat at home, so we’re expecting a real battle,” he said.

“Hopefully we rock up and play like we did tonight, because it’ll go a long way to actually winning the game.

“We know we’ve got to train hard during the week and rock up on game day next week. Hopefully getting away together for a few days will be good.”
