In episode 25 of Inside Melbourne, Clint Stanaway and Caty Price chat to Jack Viney ahead of Melbourne’s Elimination final against Geelong. We discuss finals (1:30), Melbourne’s supporters (6:30), the journey through the tough times (13:20) and speak to James McDonald (27:00). Plus, we take your questions from the outer (18:20).
JACK Viney says the recovery period from his toe injury was complete coincidence with the timing of finals.
Speaking on Inside Melbourne, Viney said his mum, Meg, had even joked with him that he was just returning for the finals.
“My Mum has been on my back, as she reckons the timing of my comeback is pretty convenient to match up with finals,” he said with a laugh.
“It is a coincidence that with the injury I had the proper rehab has got me to this point.
“I’m ready to attack game day and I’m confident with my fitness and readiness to perform and do the job for the team.”
Looking ahead to Friday night’s first elimination final against Geelong Cats at the MCG, Viney said it was important to embrace the finals atmosphere and not shy away from it.
“It does feel different because you’ve got 2,000 people rocking up to watch you train,” he said.
“I feel like we’ve got to not shy away from that, but not overplay it. We’ve got to take it for what it is.
“At the end of the day, come game day, it’s just another game of football and we’ve got to enjoy the ride along the way.
“It’s a journey and people have been part of it and people have stayed part of it for 12 years.”
