MELBOURNE will have four-time premiership star Jordan Lewis and gun defender Neville Jetta as potential inclusions to face St Kilda on Saturday, but there's no guarantee it will once again unleash its twin ruck towers.
Lewis (hamstring) and Jetta (knee) trained well on Wednesday, but ruckman Braydon Preuss worked by himself at Gosch's Paddock and needs to prove his fitness after copping a shoulder knock in last Thursday's breakthrough win against Sydney.
"(Lewis and Jetta) will be available to play, as well as Jay Lockhart, who was a late withdrawal last week," Goodwin said.
"All those three guys got through, trained strongly, so they'll be available to play."
Preuss needs to prove his fitness, but Goodwin is confident he'll be right.
"He had a solid hitout away from the main group but he'll train on Friday and be ready to go. He was a good inclusion for us last week and performed really strongly," Goodwin said.
"He's someone who's got to get through training but we're pretty confident he will."
Preuss proved more than handy up forward in his club debut, booting a couple of goals and forming a ruck tandem with Max Gawn.
"We'll go with it this week if Preussy gets through. They seem to have a really good chemistry with each other," Goodwin said.
The 23-year-old also helped Tom McDonald and Sam Weideman, who faced form slumps to start the season.
"Both Tom and Sam looked like they were starting to get their games back in some good shape. Without question, I think (Preuss) aided those two in terms of their progression," Goodwin said.
A match committee meeting on Wednesday night will help determine whether Lewis returns for his first game since his disastrous preliminary final outing, when the Dees were thumped by eventual premiers West Coast.
"I don't think it's for me to go out on a limb and say he's definitely going to play. We've got to weigh up everything," Goodwin said.
Melbourne faces a four-day turnaround ahead of its Anzac Day Eve clash with Richmond but Goodwin was emphatic when asked if it would affect selection for the Saints clash at the MCG.
"It won't influence us one bit. This is a really important games for us," Goodwin said.
"There'll be some guys in the VFL, we've got a trial game, that either won't play or be on monitored time, but it won't influence selection this week."
Kade Kolodjashnij is struggling with concussion after being hit with a stray elbow late in the Dees' round three loss to Essendon.
"He's had a history of concussions so we're just monitoring him closely. He's a day-by-day," Goodwin said.
"He's slowly getting better but we've just got to keep monitoring him. We're hoping to get him back pretty soon."
The coach liked what his side did defensively in the second half against the Swans, when they held the opposition to just three goals, but sees room for improvement.
"Our contest started to come back, we started to move the ball a bit more efficiently, which aided a few of our other areas. It was a step forward but there's still so much work to do," Goodwin said.
