JORDAN Lewis will miss Melbourne’s second JLT Community Series match against St Kilda at Casey Fields on Thursday night, March 8.

Lewis suffered a calf strain during Melbourne’s win over North Melbourne at Kingston Twin Ovals, Hobart, last Saturday.

But general manager of football operations Josh Mahoney said Lewis was still on track for round one.

“Jordan felt some calf tightness in the first quarter of the JLT game down in Kingston on the weekend,” he told melbournefc.com.au.

“Scans have shown a minor strain and at this stage we won’t take any risks during this period and he won’t play JLT two.

“But we’re confident he’ll be available for round one, as he’s done a full pre-season, has got a lot of confidence in his legs and he’s an experienced player.”

Entering his second season at Melbourne, after a decorated career at Hawthorn, which included four premierships, Lewis had a fine first-up year with the red and blue in 2017.

He finished equal third in Melbourne’s best and fairest award, with co-captain Nathan Jones.

Lewis, who was part of the club’s leadership group in 2017, is again part of Melbourne’s streamlined look in 2018. He has been named joint vice-captain with Max Gawn, while Jones and Jack Viney are again co-captains.

The 31-year-old will enter 2018 on 283 AFL games.
