The Melbourne Football Club welcomes the partnership with the AFL and the Northern Territory Government on securing AFL matches in Darwin, further cementing the important place and contribution of the Northern Territory in the competition.
The agreement will see Melbourne play two home games at TIO Stadium over the next three seasons, with the first game scheduled for 2010 against Port Adelaide.
Melbourne Football Club CEO Cameron Schwab said, “We are very pleased with securing this agreement with the AFL and the Northern Territory Government.
“In addition to playing games in the Northern Territory, we look forward to developing our Community presence.”
“Our club covers a wide region of the Territory, with Liam Jurrah hailing from Yuendumu in Central Australia, Aaron Davey from Darwin and Austin Wonaeamirri from the Tiwi Islands. They are three outstanding Northern Territory role models, which gives us great purpose to make a positive and meaningful impact at the community level.”
“We see this as a really important step, as we continue to grow the Melbourne Football Club.”
