THE INAUGURAL Jim’s Game has been deemed a huge success, raising over $36,000 for the Jim Stynes Foundation.

The Demons honoured the life and legacy of the great Jim Stynes in Round 1, painting the town green with an Irish celebration at the MCG.

The special event, held on St Patrick’s Day eve, saw the Demon faithful throw its support behind the foundation named in Stynes’ honour, which has been in partnership with Melbourne since 2023.

Affectionally known as JSF, the Foundation was first created in 2015 to continue developing programs and initiatives that focus on inspiring young people to believe in themselves and thrive.

JSF Chair Russel Howcroft spoke of the inaugural game’s success, and the plan to build on the excitement in the future.

“It was so exciting to see Jim’s legacy celebrated in such a vibrant, lively, and of course Irish, way. Particularly the post goal jig, which we can’t wait to see again in 2026,” Howcroft said.

“On behalf of the JSF Board, I would like to thank all who supported the game and contributed to our fundraising tally. You are helping the foundation make a real difference.

“We can’t wait to see where we can take Jim’s Game in the future. Here’s to an even bigger 2026.”

With a focus on youth, the Foundation strives to have impact in three core areas, being leadership, mental health and programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This year’s fundraising efforts will support the Atyenhenge Atherre Aboriginal Corporation (AAAC) in maintaining the grassed oval, known as the 'MCG of the Desert’, in Santa Teresa/Ltyentye Apurte, as well as the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.
